Water Reclamation Facility, City of New Bern, North Carolina

The project provides a non-discharge method of disposal of highly treated reuse quality wastewater effluent. Tertiary treated effluent is pumped from the New Bern Wastewater Treatment Plant to the abandoned Glenburnie Road quarry site for storage and infiltration into the groundwater.?

In addition, some of the reuse quality wastewater effluent is pumped to a turf farm for irrigation.? An earthen dike was constructed around a portion of the abandoned quarry to provide a 160-acre impoundment lake for disposal of the treated effluent. The remainder of the quarry site can be used as a City Park and wildlife refuge, which the City can develop in the future. The facility is the first of its kind in North Carolina and was funded by Clean Water Management Trust Fund and State Revolving Grant.
