Stormwater Drainage Feasibility Study, City of Washington, NC

Rivers assisted the City of Washington with the submittal of a grant application to the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources Water Resources Development Project Grant Program. The City was awarded a grant and has contracted Rivers to conduct the study.

The scope of the study is to conduct field surveys and evaluate the existing stormwater drainage infrastructure, identify problem areas, and provide recommendations for improvements along with cost estimates. The project is consistent with existing plans and the on-going efforts to resolve stormwater drainage problems throughout the City. The study encompasses the boundaries of the drainage basins that contribute stormwater runoff within the areas that affect the City. These basins include Jacks Creek, Cherry Run, Mitchell Branch and Runyon's Creek. Within these basins, areas of immediate concern were identified and a stormwater analysis of the existing drainage system was completed. City Council was made aware of the study's preliminary findings during a presentation in May 2007. The final report with recommendations and cost estimates for storm drainage improvements was completed in August 2007.
