Phase I Environmental Assessment for Public Boating/Water Access, Town of Topsail Beach, NC
Topsail Beach considered the purchase of a parcel within the Town Limits with an existing boat ramp. The Town had a desire to create a boating access for use by the public.
The objective of the Phase I Environmental Assessment was to provide an indication of actual or potential environmental liability associated with the property as a result of current and historical property uses.
The subject property was being used for commercial activity at the time the Phase I Environmental Assessment was prepared.
A review of available environmental records was performed and revealed two occurrences of underground storage tanks (UST) within ¼ mile of the site. Both sites had active UST permits or contamination, but received a “case closed” or “no further action” status.
During a site assessment and groundwater evaluation, it was concluded the site did not appear further impacted than that documented by the NCDENR – DWM – UST Section.
