Pedestrian-Vehicle Crash Data Analysis, City of Kinston, NC

Conducted pedestrian-vehicle crash data analysis for Kinston's Comprehensive Pedestrian Plan.

Kinston's pedestrian crash data was analyzed using the NCDOT's web-based pedestrian crash database. The data was analyzed to determine trends and to identify the high risk areas and populations in Kinston. The analysis revealed the need for safety education, enforcement, design standards for places where pedestrians and motorists interface, reduction of vehicle speeds in certain areas, traffic calming devices, street lighting, and improved sight distance visibility. Improving pedestrian areas with adequate crosswalks, designated pedestrian areas within parking lots, pedestrian and street level lighting, traffic calming devices, and adopting pedestrian-friendly design guidelines will assist in reducing crashes within three identified high risk areas.
