Kinston's Ordinances reviewed for pedestrian-friendly development.
Existing ordinances were reviewed for language that would either hinders or promote a walkable community. Policy recommendations were developed for implementation and continuation of the existing safety and enhancement, encouragement, enforcement, and maintenance programs to carry out the identified projects, policies, and programs of the Kinston Comprehensive Pedestrian Plan. Recommendations included, but not limited to: sitting educational and civic facilities near existing pedestrian facilities; incorporating pedestrian-friendly accommodations, a maximum threshold for parking spaces, and shared parking for commercial development; and requiring a pedestrian connection between all residential developments.
